HOW E-COMMERCE DROPSHIPPING WORKS AND HOW TO GET STARTED || DigitalHant

Dropshipping is a sub niche under E-commerce where a
store doesn't keep the products it sells in stock or
inventory. Instead, when a store sells a product, it
purchases the item from a third party or supplier and
has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result,
the seller never sees or handles the product.
The biggest difference between dropshipping and normal
e-commerce model which we are used to, is that the
seller doesn't stock or own inventory. Instead, the
merchant purchases inventory as needed from a supplier
– usually a wholesaler or manufacturer – to fulfill
orders.
Benefit of Dropshipping
1. Less Capital Is Required – The reason why Dropshipping
made it to this list is because it requires little
capital to kick off! Probably the biggest advantage to
dropshipping is that it's possible to launch 🚀 your
Dropshipping business without having to invest
thousands of naira in goods up front. Traditionally,
Sellers have had to tie up huge amounts of capital
purchasing goods.
2. With the dropshipping model, you don't have to purchase
a product unless you already made the sale and have
been paid by the customer. Without having to invest in
goods up front, it’s possible to start a successful
dropshipping business with very little money.
3. Flexible Location – A dropshipping business can be run
from just about anywhere in the world with an internet connection. As long as you can communicate with
suppliers and customers easily, you can run and manage
your business.
4. Wide Selection of Products – Because you don't have to
pre-purchase the items you sell, you can offer an array
of products to your potential customers. If suppliers
stock an item, you can list if for sale on your website
at no additional cost.
5. Easy to Get Started – Running an ecommerce business is
much easier when you don't have to deal with physical
products.
With dropshipping, you don't have to worry
about:
* Managing or paying for a warehouse
* Packing and shipping your orders
* Tracking inventory for accounting reasons
* Handling returns and inbound shipments
* Continually ordering products and managing stock
level
Those are some benefits of Dropshipping, moving on to;
Disadvantages of Dropshipping
1: Inventory Issues – If you stock all your own items,
it's relatively simple to keep track of which items are
in and out of stock. But when you're sourcing from
multiple warehouses, which are also fulfilling orders
for other merchants, inventory changes on a daily
basis. While there are ways you can better sync your
store's inventory with your suppliers', these solutions
don't always work seamlessly, and a few suppliers out
there don't always support the technology required.
2: Shipping Complexities – If you work with multiple
suppliers – as most drop shippers do – the products on
your website will be sourced through a number of
different dropshippers. This complicates your shipping
costs.
Let's say a customer places an order for three items,
all of which are available only from separate
suppliers. You'll incur three separate shipping charges
for sending each item to the customer, but it's
probably not wise to pass this charge along to the
customer, as they'll think you're grossly overcharging
for shipping! They might abandon the cart 🛒 And even
if you did want to pass these charges along, automating
these calculations can be difficult.
3: Supplier Errors – Have you ever been blamed for
something that wasn't your fault, but you had to accept
responsibility for the mistake anyway?
The goods move from the supplier to your customers,
they are chances that the supplier might make mistakes
which can cause frustration for example, missing goods,
low quality packing, botched shipment all these if not
properly handled, it might damage your business
reputation.
Even the best dropshipping suppliers make mistakes
fulfilling orders – mistakes for which you have to take
responsibility and apologize.
                     Is It Worth It?
It solely depends on you to weigh the advantages and
disadvantages, understand this, Dropshipping is
profitable as a matter of fact, it’s a business you cango in with 15k or less and make 150k to 200k monthly
depending on your model
dropshipping isn't a perfect, stress-free way to build
a successful business. The model has some definite
advantages but comes with a number of built-in
complexities and problems you'll need to be able to
address.
                  How does it work
They are three (3) things to keep in mind to understand
how Dropshipping works
1: You need a supplier to source goods from.
2: You need a webstore (public or private).
3: You need to drive traffic to your webstore, you
can’t just handle 1 and 2 and then fold your hands, you
need to drive traffic to get more eyes on your webstore
to make sales
Ps: webstore means a store hosted on a website eg
jumia, Konga etc these are examples of webstore also
webstore and webshop are both the same.
My Story
Knowing how Dropshipping works and the 3 things to keep
in minds I think you should hear my story, I started
out Dropshipping 2017/2018, I set sail, I got a private
webshop, I did my research and found a hot product to
sell (A hot product or winning product, are products
that have been proven to sell effectively) so I looked
for a supplier that would supply me that product from
EBay (one of the largest e-commerce store in the U.S
󾓦) I listen the product on my website knowing the 3rd
thing to keep in mind which is traffic, I used Facebook advertisement to run traffic to my webshop. I got a hot
product for $2.99 and I was selling it for “$5.99 +
free shipping if you buy more than one”, I was making
like 30k - 45k profit daily and still yet I was not
utilizing things well.
How? Later that year I got to know that, EBay suppliers
get their products from Aliexpress(second largest
e-commerce store in China 󾓭) it’s cheaper to
Dropshipping from Aliexpress than EBay, also I wasn’t
investing my money back into the business (getting a
virtual assistant to help manage the store as I scale
and attend to clients and other aspect of the store) I
had to leave Dropshipping, why I did? You’ll get to
find out later.
